Samsung I5700 (Galaxy SPICA) Android 2.1 Flashing Guide (Updated)

***** USE THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK !  *******
***** DO NOT BLAME ME FOR BRICKED DEVICES ******

What you need :

The firmware : I570EDDJB2 in my case. (Unreleased Android 2.1 (Eclair) firmware from Samsung).
Multiloader application and Spica OPS (Odin_v4_03.exe + spica.ops) : Odin_v4_03.zip
*** Please use the new spica_jc3.ops file for the firmwares I5700XXJBA, I570EXXJC3 I570EXXJC5
Drivers for I5700 : drv5700.zip
Samsung USB Cable

Before you start :
Backup your data !
Remove the SIM lock if any.
Create a folder and extract all files listed above + the firmware (do not extract the tar file from within the firmware)
Ensure your phones battery is sufficiently charged (and your laptops battery too if you live in a country like ours lol ;-))
Shutdown any service/software which could be using the USB port, especially the Samsung PC suite. - Very Important

Flashing :

Edit : You should probably do a hard reset before you start by punching in the following code on the phone *2767*3855#

1. Shutdown your phone and remove the SDCARD and the SIM

2. Put the phone in "Download Mode" by pressing Volume Down + Camera + Power button.
3. Connect the Phone to the PC using USB
4. Install drivers using the drv5700 files- A lot of guys are going wrong here.  Open your device manager and ensure the two Samsung devices are shown properly before you go ahead.(circled in red) - see image below :

4a. Disconnect phone from the USB. *** (Very Important), thanks to Srikanth Kapa (For all you guys having problems with "Setup Connection"
5. Open Odin Multi Downloader v4.03.exe and then reconnect the phone, you should see the a COM port number with a yellow background.
6. Select the files as shown in the image below :

If you are using some other firmware and there is only one tar file select Option : One Package and load the file under One Package TAB.

Cross check the files and if you need to change anything click on "Reset Files" and select files again.

7. Once you are ready hit the START button. DO NOT DISCONNECT the phone until the firmware download completes.

8.Watch the "Message: window and wait till it shows <1> Close serial port and wait until rebooting.- This usually takes not more than 1-3 minutes.

9. At this point your flashing is complete and the device should be automatically rebooting, once the reboot is complete unplug the USB cable and flick open the Eclair green locking slider ;-)

Congrats !!! Welcome to the delicious ECLAIR club :-)

Issues :

Google Maps seems to be a bit temperamental (Upgraded to ver 4.0.0 from the new 2.1 Market). Phone has hung a couple of times but nothing really serious.

New Features :

Multiple Accounts Support
Exchange Support - No Calendar support or GAL lookup.
Camera now has Scene mode, White balance, Color effect
Search across the device including SMS/MMS
HTML5 Support in the browser.
Live Wallpapers
Refreshed UI

Hopefully Samsung will include pinch and zoom in the final release version :-)

Thanks to the guys at :

Sameer i had disabled background data download, it had reduced my problem almost 90%. as i am in marketing unable to go service center. anyway thanks for your reply.

@sameer: i tried but it got stuck up at <1>setup connecting... no damage to existing os though!
is this problem related to drivers?

I knw i m sounding complete noob here but shd i uninstall nps n follow ur steps??

@sameer
I am gonna flash my spica.Should i switch on USB debugging mode(applications/development/USB debugging) on phone before flashing.Bcoz if i switch on that mode,in device manager of my pc Samsung android USB Modem and Samsung Android USB Composite device is showing. Please guide.

GREAKY said...

@ Siddesh - you need to disable NPS not uninstall it. No other software should be trying to access the USB when you flash.

@ Nimesh - USB debbugging mode is not required to be turned on for flashing.

u dint get me i disabled the nps then i disabled windows mobile service center too!! still i was stuck up at <1>setup connecting n was there for long time. just wanted to ensure the problem before proceeding!

hi sameer

my firmware version is i5700DDIK2 , can i upgrade it to android 2.1 ??

Ritesh Gupta said...

Baron, check your internal memory, I am sure it shows up 0.00B.

Flash with the debug option again or another firmware. That should help.

Ritesh Gupta said...

Siddhesh,
1. NPS still keeps running soemtimes. Search for the process in task manager and kill it.
2. Check your drivers.

Baron - Check your internal memory. I guess it shows up as 0.00B. You have to reflash with debug option or use another firmware if thats the case.

Hi Sameer,

I need your help, I have samsung i5700 with Android 1.5, I try all the way to update it, but nothing happen,
I went to:
http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/WEBPROTECT-samsungandroidi5700.htm
and I download "I5700JPJC1" and I use odin last ver. but it is not working ... still the same ver.

could you please help me????

GREAKY said...

@ Nirav - Yes you can.

Sandor said...

Thank you very much for the clear instructions! My Spica is now happily running 2.1

To be honest: I do not feel the update is so good that it warrants all the effort some of the users are going through,
as Eclair seems to break things as much as it improves, unfortunately.

One of the things I wonder about; is there a method to use Live Wallpapers without having to buy a Home replacement app or rooting the phone?

Unknown said...

Hi Sameer,

I did upgrade my i5700 to 2.1, I have installed some live wall papers but its not getting active or i dont see any option to enable !!!

How do I enable these live wall paper?

First of all, thank you for the guide.

Second, I recommend to everyone who's not managing to update, to turn off the anti-virus. That is how I finally managed to update to Eclair.

Hi,

i really want to flash my spica, but I can t get the USB drivers to work, my pc just won't recognise my phone as you specify in the screenshot, and I us the drivers you specify in your manual. I'm using win XP professional, and I have tried it on differant pC's at home and I can't get them to work ..

the update didnt go very well for me.. managed to do it only after 10 times. end of it, the 2.1 did look great but lost network coz imei set to a string of zeroes.
sent it to samsung service, who sent it all over the world and finally returned the phone back to me after 20 days with the restored imei. they said the official 2.1 shud b available in bombay by the end of this week.
wondering why the imei set to zeroes though, if anyone can throw any light on that.
pls note that i was reckless when the update was failing, and in the odin had unclicked "protect ops", and clicked "debug only", just to see if that helps update.. :-)
AFAIK, the imei is written on a "write once" chip and assumed it to be indestructible. now am wiser without any addition to intelligence.. lol

Hi,

Just heard from Samsung Customer Care in India that the Android 2.1 update is officially available now. We need to go to the Service center (with the original bill) where they'll update the OS. Plan to try it as soon as I get some free time from office.

Cheers!

Unknown said...

@aman thats a gud news.. i will try to get in touch Samsung Service Center in Guwahati .. Hope the upgrade is available PAN india

Unknown said...

@Suraj, i think the update should be available pan India.. though do make sure the service center you visit has the software engineers to do the upgrade..
i just had a harrowing time visiting one of the Samsung Service centers in Hyderabad where they said they couldn't do it, inspite of me having been directed there by Samsung Customer Care.. The Area Service Manager has offered to help me out by ensuring an engineer is available tomorrow to do the upgrade for me.. i'll need to leave the phone with them for 3-4 hrs.. hopefully, it'll all go well and I'll have an eclair tomorrow..
haven't had a chance to spend much time with Cupcake (just bought the phone last Fri) but will post if i find any obvious performance improvements/deterioration..

@aman- which service centre at hyderabad? i tried customer care samsung and they just rejected any android update for the phone, may be even i can be at the service centre tomorrow(i' m from hyd too)

@Riyaz sorry for the late response bro, I was too busy wid lovely eclair :), its great no bugs found till now, its runnig smooth. I am confused about battery life as usual usage(browsing(1 hr),social networking(less than 1/2 hr), talk time(1/2 hr),music 1hr, etc) lasts 1&1/2 half day(atmost), i did not tried other firmware so not sure its better or lesser.

Unknown said...

Hey i followed ur guide.. no issues.. now i am tasting eclair..thanks sameer

Hi and thanks for the tutorial.
I'm from Romania and after 3 days I've managed to update to 2.1 :D
So first, if you are from Europe, the firmware posted here is not good (it's for Asia area). You must download the latest firmware from samsung-firmwares for Europe (they have a colour legend there) and that should work.
I didn't knew this at first, so I strugled and managed to install the firmware posted here only by checking the debug only and not addind the CSC file in Odin. It worked like charm only that the after it started everything moved like crap so I downloaded the latest from samsung-firmwares (2.1 update 1), installed it with Odin, without the debug only checked and with all the added(so with all the options) and now it works quite nice.
Thanks again for your post because it really helped me understand how things work :O

@Ravi, i went to the Service Station in Kukatpally (near BJP office) where the software engineer was not available. The Service Center folks at Kukatpally asked me to go the service center in Ameerpet where it could possibly be done, though I'm not sure. When I escalated it to customer care, they got me through to the Area Service Manager who gave me two options.
1. I leave my phone at Kukatpally Service Center and he'll get a Sr. software engineer to visit the center and update my cell. I could collect it the next day.
2. I visit the Kukatpally Service Center again today after calling him up and leave the cell there for 3 hrs. He'll arrange a software engineer to come and install the update.
I've been held up with some office work today and haven't been able to follow-up. Plan to give him a call on Sat morning and get it done then.
I'd suggest you give a call to the customer care, ask them to route you to the mobile tech support team and check with them which Service Center you could go to. Do make sure they confirm that a software engineer will be available when u visit.

Hi Sameer,

I had asked couple of questions regarding firmware issues few weeks earlier.

I'm have the I570EDXJB3 firmware. Everything works good for except one little snag. When I connect the phone to a computer, there is Android modem or Samsung device in the device manager like it previously used to be. And I'm not able to transfer files since the card is not getting detected. Any idea?

Wow! So much pain for the update. I am better off with Sameer's guide then. And ofcourse I've tried a lot more stuff with some inputs I got here. Having flashed my phone about 10 times now to try out different stuff and having rooted it, I guess its weird that Samsung wants you to give up the phone for 3-4 hours!

Hello,

I just bought my samsung i5700 with I5700DAJA1 firmware. I want to reflash it with the new firmware I570EDXJC4 . I am not sure if it will be working fine in Windows 7 as my operating system. I experienced problems in installing the phone drivers as what you mentioned here and odin.

What operating system you are using? The Pc Suite of samsung could not install the drivers you said even I have to update the unknown driver as shown in the Driver Manager.

I want to see the Android 2.1 running in my phone.

Waiting for your reply. Thanks. By the way, it will be my first time flashing.

And I think it's easy to flash the firmware.

Cyrus said...

Hi Sameer,

Can you do the new firmware posted in the samsung-firmwares?

I570EDXJC4 (2010 March)

Have you tried it? I wish to hear from you. I want to flash my phone with this but the file structure when I unzip is different from the one here.

Thanks.

Ritesh Gupta said...

Cyrus,
1. I used Windows 7 without issues.
2. The structure may be different for files when you use SINGLE file flash like JC4 you are trying.

I wrote down the whole test with that file (and issues with that file) on my tests section:
http://grittalk.blogspot.com

That might help you because we share exactly the same environment I guess :-).

Den Puri said...

Thanks....it works, after 20 times :D, the problem is the cache (CSC)...after i leave it blank...flashing success

Cyrus said...

Hi Retish,

I read your blog and I posted comments there. I hope you can reply.

Im now in doubt in flashing unofficial release. Maybe, the best way is to stock in 1.5

Thanks.

Cyrus

Ritesh Gupta said...

Wokay Cyrus, I replied you there as well just to be sure where you look. Some of the stuff on 1.5 makes up with 2.1 to certain extent. However, the 2.1 is real cool + having the satisfaction to flash your own phone is even more fun!

There is more fun stuff to do. You can try rooting, live wall papers ...

Well ... not always, but sometimes its fun to be one step ahead of contemporary stuff :-)

Hi All,

For all those who want to upgrade to 2.1, simply follow the guide by Sameer, all goes very smooth and no problem at all as I too upgraded with same guide and my upgrade completed in just 1.30mins to copy file and rest all in 3mins.

If any one getting stuck at CONNECTION.. then they should try to remove battery, reinsert and start process again, all works fine.

Riyaz - That is a restriction from Android. So you either need to root your phone or get su + remount on your phone. Then after modifying a couple of files, your phone can start saving applications on external memory.

Cheers!

You need to check if your USB driver are installed properly and you can see the same in Device Manager window...

If the pricess is stopping at CONNECTION 1 window means it cannot find your mobile as a serial device to start trasnfering required software.

Hi All,

The guide by Sameer is very simple and works fine if you follows the steps carefully and one by one.

I have tried the guide with i570EDDJB2 Using old spica.ops file,
i570EXXJD1, i570EXXJD4 & i570EDXJC4 using new spica.ops file and all worked fine for me in just 3mins.

If any one getting stuck at CONNNECTION 1...
Disconnect mobile from PC,
Remove Battery from mobile,
Reboot your PC,
Put mobile again in download mode,
Connect mobile again to PC and start again.

Feel free to write back.

Regards,

Hi Sameer, I was wondering if there is a chance to flash my phone without having to unlock sim. Also is some1 who tried that and it worked?

Ravi Teja J said...

@sameer -there are so many firmwares out nowlike jce jcf jd1 jd4..have u tried any new ones lately?
has anyone updated to 2.1 through new pc suite??

GREAKY said...

@ Stroe - do you mean the SIM lock or the phone is locked to a network ?

@ Ravi - I have been using XXJCB till now.. BTW as some of the people have reported here.. the official update is now available. Get in touch with the local service center and they should be able to update your phone.

GREAKY said...

Sorry guys I haven't been able to keep up with the comments lately.. I see a lot of people replying to each other though :) Lets keep up the good work. If there is anything that I have missed answering.. just let me know... Thanks all for the collective effort.

Unknown said...

Okey, Sameer. Now iam confused. Isn't Simlock the same with a phone locked to a network? I mean about what u wrote in your guide:"Remove the SIM lock if any.". My question was if I can flash the phone without that step.(I cant afford to pay right now for unlocking the network). I was wondering if someone flashed withour removind the sim lock? If so,pls replay back. Also, if no one did that, what are the risks?

GREAKY said...

@ Stroe - no SIM lock is a simple lock that anybody can enable by going into settings > security. I am not too sure about network locked phones.. maybe if somebody else has tried it .. they can reply.

Unknown said...

So, It is a must to unlock the phone from a network? I mean, if my phone is locked to a network, I can still flash it without having problems?

GREAKY said...

@ Stroe - I won't recommend that. you should check with somebody who has done it earlier. Most of the guys here have had unlocked phones.

Unknown said...

Thank you for your time. Iam gonna continue to gather infos until iam sure I can flash it without having any major risks.

@ riyaz - android does not use the SDcard memory for installing the apps by default. You will have to MOD using Apps2SD .. a comment just above yours has posted the link for the same..

@ Chris - Looks like the drivers are not installed properly.

@ John - As far I understand ODIN only works well with WinXP, some users have reported using Vista and the compatibility mode.

Hi Sameer:

I tried flashing 2.1 to i5700 and it was successful. But internal memory showed up as 0.00 B :(

Then following the clues given by you, I tried to flash 2.1 again with "debug only" selected. Now, I am not able to hard reset using *2767*3855# as every time I do it, it ends in a triangle surrounded by exclamation mark.

Tried going ahead without hard reset, but now the drivers are not being installed. I had NPC when I installed for the first time and the devices were recognized as Samsung USB Composite Device and Samsung USB Modem and the devices were recognized. But now, the second time, modem is not recognized properly, either it is not recognized at all or it shows up as SAMSUNG CDMA Modem #2. I try updating the drivers with the drv5700, but it fails as timeout period expires.

Any insight on it?

Finally, I was able to get both the drivers as Samsung USB Composite Device and Samsung USB Modem in Device Manager, but now Odin got stuck at <1> Setup connection.

mate thank you for all your help i turned off my anti virus and used a newer firmware and it worked after 12 times trying your the best lol cheers again

ravisghosh said...

Here is something that worked for me.
1. Installed NPC 1.4 which would install drivers. Fact of note is that if you connect i5700 switched on, the drivers are recognized as Samsung Android USB Modem, etc. But if you connect in Downloading Mode, it shows up as Samsung USB Modem.

2. Needed to do multiple restarts of phone as well as windows vista to get the drivers detected properly. Often, the modem driver was detected as Samsung CDMA Modem #2 which would not work.

3. I was not able to hard reset the phone as explained earlier, so I proceeded without it.

4. Put the phone in downloading mode.

5. Started Odin.

6. selected new ops, spica_jc3.ops.

7. I downloaded and used i570EXXJD1 firmware from http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/. Earlier when I was trying to use latest firmware for asia, i.e., I570EDXJC4, it was not working.

8. Of note, i did not use debug mode.

Now, I have Android 2.1 with 130 mb of internal memory!

Waiting for you to try out Samdroid Net firmware.

I tried understanding it...But the guide seems a bit tough.

Can you try the same and make a simple guide for us ... Greakies

SUCCESS!!!

I am now tasting eclair.

many thanks sameer and all other posters.

i'm running into the 3g/gprs issue though. is there an update or fix?

I work for the wireless provider, so i know the APN by heart.....if i enter them incomplete or incorrect, they save. only when i enter them correctly and completely will they not save (and thusly not work)

Unknown said...

Thanks Sameer, finally upgraded to 2.1.. :-) Also Thanks to Ritesh for the Windows 7 guide..

Flashed in I570EXXJCF

After boot up it has an Internal memory of 126MB.. It quicker than 1.5 if window animations are disabled. Also more apps for 2.1.. :-) Camera interface has lots of additions.. Its good..

Pantheon eats lots of battery and memory, any idea how to disable it and go back to the old one without rooting it ?

I tried home++ , its good .. But anything better ?

Regards
Goutam

Could you please help me out with manual gprs settings for bsnl karnataka? As usual, bsnl call center is of no use!

Unknown said...

@ Ravi S Ghosh I only know the settings for Rogers Wireless here in Canada.

And I did some hunting on the internet and I found what appears to be a fix for the 3G/GPRS issue that has been noted.

I must credit INTREPID-NY on Android Forums with pointing me in the right direction....it was for another problem, but i used the basic idea to get me the rest of the way.

Before starting you must have a MicroSD card installed. You MUST have Windows configured to show extensions of known file types! Do not proceed until you're sure you can see extensions of files. See here for simple instructions on how to show extensions in Windows: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=193

******I make no guarantees that this will function for anyone. Please consult your carrier for your specific APN settings******
1. Install APN Backup & Restore (free).
2. Reset device (battery pull)
3. Open APN Backup & Restore & select Backup (even if you don't have any APN saved)
4. Plug phone (or SD card) into computer and open file in Notepad (or any XML editor) - File will be found in a folder called ApnBackupRestore
5. Enter APN settings manually *example below then Save file
6. Unmount phone or place SD card back in phone
7. Run APN Backup again and click Restore. Select the file to restore. When prompted to search for all instances, answer: NO
8. Reset device (battery pull)

One the phone has restarted, you should see the APN saved.

When open in notepad, scroll al the way to the bottom. You should see a few basic settings, but you will need to fill in the blanks.
*I was running into a problem where the APN wouldn't save after changing the MNC from 72 default to the carrier required 720. An apparant fix is by changing mnc="72" to mnc="720"

Before:

After:

Rogers Wireless APN settings:

name: Rogers
apn: rogers-core-appl1.apn
proxy:
port:
username:
password:
sever:
mmsc: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
mms proxy: 10.128.1.69
mms port: 80
mcc: 302
mnc: 720
apn type: internet + mms
auth type: none

My best wishes with your attempts to get 3G/GPRS, and even MMS up and running.

Hi Chanshri,

Where did you find the official update

Karl Francisco Fernandes said...

@chanshri : How did you get the official update? Did you give it to the Samsung service center? If so, where?

Niranjan Patil said...

Hi Guys, Samsung now has official firmware i570EDDJC5 (Released 23 April 2010, Indian version) with them. The service centers use exactly same method listed here to update our phones. Only difference is that they are responsible if its bricked!

Now get to your Samsung support center in your city and get it updated. The operators or executives wouldn't be aware and might not help. Talk to an engineer there, and just tell him you need to update your i5700's firmware and check the version he has with its date. If its older, ask him to download the newest one for i5700. It takes just 5 minutes for the job. You might need proof of purchase probably.

As of me, I went with XXJD4 2.1update1 and should agree with others, this is much better than DDJB2.

Sunil Lekhwani said...

dear sameer I saw a lot of guys clamouring for European firmwares. on a forum somewhere, may be on samdroid, I came across the clarification . after installation of euro firmware there is less space for application memory. because samsung gave more space to firmware. that is why they function smoothly. but that comes at the cost of a about 30 mb memory less for applications. with this point in mind Indian 2.1 firmwares are better albeit with a very slight lag.

@ Sunil & All ( Hope Sameer dont mind my replies & Suggestions)

If you want to get Live wallpaper working on your phone without rooting here is the procedure.

1) First download any livewallpaper from android market on your phone ( it will not work but dont worry )

2) Then download Android PC Suit from below.

www.pandapp.com

3) Install and run the program.

4) When program start on top left side corner click on phone icon and choose language as English ( As by default program starts in chinese language)

5) Download live wallpaper picker ( Pls google you will find link ) or use link below.

www.4shared.com/dir/2186128/3d16200/sharing.html

6) Put your phone in debug mode
Setting > Application > Development and choose debug mode.

7) Now connect your phone to your PC/Laptop and when it shows debug mode connected on your phone click on refresh icon in Android PC suit hear phone icon.

8) It will detect your phone and will ask to install Panda Deamon in your phone... click next and let it install in your phone.

9) After installation your phone name will display in the menu.

10) Now click on Apps on left hand side, it will open another window displaying all apps installed on your phone.

11) Click on Add buttong on top left side, browse the path of Live WallPaperpicker file and click on install.

12) It will install Live WallPaper Picker on your phone.

Thats it, now you have Live WallPaper picker on your phone and you can install & choose wall papers you want to use.

Enjoy..

@Zubin & All,

All European firmware are designed to use more space to make your phone work faster hence Internal Memory remains to 130MB only.

If you need more memory you can flash to i570EDDJB2 (Indian Firmware guide by Sameer).

@ Nimesh,

Sameers guide is basic procedure, any one can you to flash there phone with the firmware available on net.

@ Raja,

NPC is New PC suit by Samsung to control your phones contacts, sms and other stuffs.

Why do u want to disable it ?

Riyaz

Hi Sameer,
First of all, thank you for your efforts to grow a community of Android users in India.
I got my phone upgraded to 2.1 in the Samsung service centre in Bangalore, BTM layout. The firmware version is i570EDDJC5.
After the upgrade my battery life has degraded majorly. From 2 days in 1.5 to just 1 day in 2.1. Yesterday night there was about 30% battery remaining and the phone had switched off by the time I woke up! Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS were all disabled. I also installed Helix and killed Pantheon as I read somewhere that Pantheon consumes too much of cpu cycles.
Is there anything I can do to get my battery life up? Would rooting the phone help? or should I go to the service centre to get my battery checked?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance :-)

I don't think its bricked bro. Try this:

I thought I had bricked it once, when it wouldnt start - and threw a triangle warning symbol when trying to boot up. I was stuck at this for about 1 whole day. The phone was no longer allowing any other firmware load:

- All I did to get it corrected was install Kies and connect the phone to the system in download mode. Kies tries to identify the device and fixes something in the proces. By the time Kies comes up with the screen telling you about whether an update is needed or not for your device, the device is already fixed. At this moment, you can unplug the device, and its ready for another flash after a reboot.

Ritesh Gupta said...

@Sharath - My battery life has also gone down. The number of widgets you use also decides the run time of the battery.

What I do to save battery is kill everything (including pantheon) when phone is not in use. Download a widget like ES Task Kill. This will kill all the processes currently running.

When you are ready to use the phone again, just press the home button and everything loads up.

Unknown said...

@ TOM,

This is just a problem of com driver, or your phone is not getting detect as serial device.

Try to reboot your PC, then put your mobile in download mode and retry to Flash.

@ RAJA,

Exclamation mark while boot means your Bootloder and firmware did not match.

Which firmware did u tried to flash?

No ringtone means you have not selected CSC file. Choose CSC file and flash again it will solve your problem.

Alternatively you can download ringtone from market and use as ringtone, but this way u will not have default ringtones.

@ Sharath

Install Advance Task Killer and you will see how many un wanted tasks are running, kill the ones which you dont need.

It will help to increase battery life.

Rooting wont help for battery life!!

@ RAJA,

Reflash with CSC file and proper firmware files it will solve all your problems of Internet, 3G & Ringtone.

CSC file contains Cache files which requires for proper function of all these.

Also device manager will not show ur mobile as Samsung Mobile when it boots normally.

It will show only in download mode.

Riyaz

Face book works fine in DDJB2 or DDJC5 you may try to flash one of them.

@FREAK

Which firmware you flashed first ?
Reflash will solve your problem. Dont do LKMOD again.

Riyaz

I am using spica with 2.1.
Some say its price has gone up to 14500 and i7500 is coming for 11500. So considering some features like:
I7500
HSDPA 7.2Mbps / HSUPA 5.76Mbps
5 MP Camera with Auto Focus & LED Flash
8 gb internal memory- for unlimited appa is it worth thinking again of.

Hey, I'm trying to upgrade but what the heck, I can't get in to Download mode at all! I tried exactly the same way - Volume down + Camera + Power button. Just camera ringer and power menu pops out! No one seems to be having problems in getting into download mode!! sigh....

I cant even get into download mode..what the heck! did exactly the same Volume down+camera+power button held together...nothing happens....

Thanks Riyaz, I tried flashing. Something went bad.
I did a hard reset, made sure no Samsung PC software was running, I put the phone in download mode, Odin detected it on Com(5). Selected the right files and hit the Start button. It was stuck at <1> setup connection... for a long time (12 minutes). Sometimes Odin software was crashing.. Now I see that the Phone is not booting but shows a funny Mobile to PC picture and stays there. How do I go back? or Should I just go to Service center? Help is most appreciated... is there any way I can hard reset and go back to 1.5?

I had issues in flashing the 2.1 ROM. Odin downloaded just crashes the moment I press Start button. Says it performed an illegal operation n exits.

Did anyone face this issue? I tried 10 times, removing battery, switching it off n various things. Just can't make Odin run...

@ TECHNOLOGY

Which firmware you tried to upgrade to ?? DDJB2 or DDJC5 ??

Keep in mind DDJB2 required old spica file where as DDJC5 requires new spica file.

PDA file in DDJC5 does not contain file to upgrade 1.5 to 2.1!

It looks u tried to upgrade 1.5 to 2.1 with DDJC5 directly ??

You will have to upgrade your 1.5 to DDJB2 first then again upgrade to DDJC5 to make it workable.

Dont worry about funny pc to mobile picture on your mobile. Just put it in download mode again, dont run any Samsung software.

Make Odin run first, chose Spica, Boot, PHONE, PDA, CSC files to flash. All should go normal.

Dont wait for long time if u get stuck at <1> setup connection.. it will not do anything for long.

Also make sure you have correct files downloded and you are using correct Spica file.

Riyaz
