Samsung I5700 (Galaxy SPICA) Android 2.1 Flashing Guide (Updated)

***** USE THIS GUIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK !  *******
***** DO NOT BLAME ME FOR BRICKED DEVICES ******

What you need :

The firmware : I570EDDJB2 in my case. (Unreleased Android 2.1 (Eclair) firmware from Samsung).
Multiloader application and Spica OPS (Odin_v4_03.exe + spica.ops) : Odin_v4_03.zip
*** Please use the new spica_jc3.ops file for the firmwares I5700XXJBA, I570EXXJC3 I570EXXJC5
Drivers for I5700 : drv5700.zip
Samsung USB Cable

Before you start :
Backup your data !
Remove the SIM lock if any.
Create a folder and extract all files listed above + the firmware (do not extract the tar file from within the firmware)
Ensure your phones battery is sufficiently charged (and your laptops battery too if you live in a country like ours lol ;-))
Shutdown any service/software which could be using the USB port, especially the Samsung PC suite. - Very Important

Flashing :

Edit : You should probably do a hard reset before you start by punching in the following code on the phone *2767*3855#

1. Shutdown your phone and remove the SDCARD and the SIM

2. Put the phone in "Download Mode" by pressing Volume Down + Camera + Power button.
3. Connect the Phone to the PC using USB
4. Install drivers using the drv5700 files- A lot of guys are going wrong here.  Open your device manager and ensure the two Samsung devices are shown properly before you go ahead.(circled in red) - see image below :

4a. Disconnect phone from the USB. *** (Very Important), thanks to Srikanth Kapa (For all you guys having problems with "Setup Connection"
5. Open Odin Multi Downloader v4.03.exe and then reconnect the phone, you should see the a COM port number with a yellow background.
6. Select the files as shown in the image below :

If you are using some other firmware and there is only one tar file select Option : One Package and load the file under One Package TAB.

Cross check the files and if you need to change anything click on "Reset Files" and select files again.

7. Once you are ready hit the START button. DO NOT DISCONNECT the phone until the firmware download completes.

8.Watch the "Message: window and wait till it shows <1> Close serial port and wait until rebooting.- This usually takes not more than 1-3 minutes.

9. At this point your flashing is complete and the device should be automatically rebooting, once the reboot is complete unplug the USB cable and flick open the Eclair green locking slider ;-)

Congrats !!! Welcome to the delicious ECLAIR club :-)

Issues :

Google Maps seems to be a bit temperamental (Upgraded to ver 4.0.0 from the new 2.1 Market). Phone has hung a couple of times but nothing really serious.

New Features :

Multiple Accounts Support
Exchange Support - No Calendar support or GAL lookup.
Camera now has Scene mode, White balance, Color effect
Search across the device including SMS/MMS
HTML5 Support in the browser.
Live Wallpapers
Refreshed UI

Hopefully Samsung will include pinch and zoom in the final release version :-)

Thanks to the guys at :

@sameer do i need to use the old spica ops for flashing back to 1.5 firmware?? i tried it but got stuck at samsung.com screen so asking here..

Ive managed to get live wallpapers but when i choose one it says:

the appliction Live Wallpaper Pickers (process android.process.acore)has stopped unexpectedly. please try again.

Are there any solutions to this problem as i would like to have a live wallpaper?

ViKiD™ said...

(PS: Most of the main steps have been taken from Sameer's Rooting tutorial)

Follow this to install Live wallpapers properly :

(Be sure to place the LiveWallpapersPicker.apk into the root of your sdcard)

Step 1 : Download Android SDK.

Step 2 : Extract the SDK to a folder.

Step 3 : If you are using windows, right-click on My Computer, and select Properties. Under the Advanced tab, hit the Environment Variables button, and in the dialog that comes up, double-click on Path (under System Variables). Append the full path to the tools/ directory to the path (for eg if you have extracted the SDK under d: drive add ;d:\android-sdk_r04-windows\tools Path variable).

Step 4a: Enable USB debugging mode :
Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. (forgot this step.. thanks to yudha.)

Step 4b: Connect the phone using the USB cable and run the following commands using the command prompt.

Now in command Prompt check id your phone has been connected or not by typing adb devices. You should get some numbers.
Otherwise there is a driver issue.

Now type adb shell
Prompt will change to
$
Type su
Now the prompt becomes # (If your phone is rooted properly)
Now if you have rooted your phone using Sameer's method and added the remount script or have installed leshaks PDA then you just need to type

remount rw

other wise :

mount -o remount,rw,codepage=utf8,vfat,xattr,check=no /dev/stl5 /system

Now type :

cat /sdcard/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk > /system/app/LiveWallpapersPicker.apk

Reboot and then see if its working...

I tried it this way and it worked.
Basically it needs to be in the root system and not as a normal app.

In the basic DDJB2 update it used to work flawlessly...but they have changed plenty of things...

Anonymous said...

i have done all this, but when i click on a live wallpaper it says it has to close and try again ?

Anonymous said...

@ViKiD. when i use command prompt and enter the mount -o etc command it says that it could no be launched?

Hi Sameer,

Thanks for your detailed guide, manged to flash new JCB in first attempt itself:). But i have a doubt my internal storage now shows only 130MB!!! is it so in this JCB, I dont use the LKMOD or RootLKUpdate. Please give a comment on this

FrEaK said...

Hey Sameer,
Ur doing a really nice job here.
I picked up my Galaxy Spica last night, i stay in Dubai. The phone and Android is bloody great! The damn thing doesnt have the Market App installed! What can i do to resolve this?

GREAKY said...

@ anand - mine shows 147 MB .. but that is after all the apps I have installed. Install Quick Systems from the market and then see how much is it.

@ Freak - I am not too sure how to fix that.. maybe flashing the latest 2.1 rom would help.

ViKiD™ said...

@elliot can you post a screenshot as to where you encounter the error?

Ravi Teja J said...

@Sameer-even mine showed something around 128 mb free internal memory after 2.1 update..:(

Unknown said...

Hi Sameer,
I happened to find a site where one person had claimed that he was able to successfully upgrade to eclair using the official way.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=799122ccd4713764&hl=en

He had done it using the SAMSUNG New PC Studio,PC Sync (ver.1.4.0.IL1) It can be downloaded from the the following site of samsung.
http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/detail/support.do?group=mobile-phone&type=mobile-phone&subtype=style&model_nm=GT-S3653&language=&cate_type=all&mType=SW&dType=D&vType=&cttID=2689231&prd_ia_cd=01011200&disp_nm=Samsung%20Corby&model_cd=GT-S3653CWAXSO&menu=download&menu2=detail

I find that this software does detect my phone and says that I5700 can only be upgraded with the software. I tried upgrading, but failed. Got the message that this version cannot be upgraded ( I'm on the german version already and have rooted the phone, perhaps that is the cause) May be other people who want to can give it a try and let us know if successful
Shaji

Unknown said...

Also Sameer, I had to on the phone click on settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB Debugging for the phone to get detected as I5700 else it will only detect it as an external card

@shaji-- i dint think it will work..but gave it a try and it dint work..i'm on cupcake version..

There is a very good chance that he is bluffing to get official help from google without revealing that hes on a hacked rom...

Unknown said...

Hi Sameer.. Its almost been a week since I am using XXJCB and I am very much satisfied with the performance too..but there seems to be a sound problem. After updating from cupcake to Eclair.. The sound of the speaker got reduced and it was noticeable... Even the sound at the ear piece was reduced. I just wanted to confirm if the problem is with the Software or is it the problem with my phone's hardwre as such...

debamishra said...

Yes , the sound problem is the one i am noticing also. Is there any solution?

ViKiD™ said...

If i had to say...mine increased ... at least somewhat...

GREAKY said...

My battery life improved tremendously. Earlier I was getting really frustrated with the DDJB2 fw.

Ravi Teja J said...

i felt the sound was low and video playing was sluggish even when no other apps are running..and its gets worse if others are running..any others with same issue??

Unknown said...

yes all the above guys i also witnessed the same issue the volume has decreased it was pretty good when i was on cupcake but on eclair its has reduced

Lets hunt for a solution to this now

Hi SAmeer, I updated to JCE.. Works ok. I was on JCB before and had rooted it before the update.

When the phone restarts after the upgrade.. I find that the samdroid logo of the previous rooting is still present and a surprise... a big text logo of samsung GALAXY SPICA I5700 is now displayed during the bootup of the phone:-) It looks very nice and pleasing.

Hi Sameer,

Found a bit of news on the samsung firmware site that talks of the official update with the latest version of NPS to I570EXXJCE
http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/samsungnews.htm

It can be downloaded from http://www.multiupload.com/Y4RHSFQBXS

I find this is a software that is newer to the one I had mentioned before. I had already upgraded to JCE using Odin and had rooted it with Leshaks latest PDA for JCE a couple of days ago...
After installing this NPS I find that it atleast checks and says that "No Upgrade is necessary" in my case.

Those who are unsuccessful with Odin may want to give it a shot with this NPS.

darshan said...

hi sameer

can we officially update? even if we have flashed using odin and also lkmod v3? NPS says my phone does not support update is it because of lkmod?

Thanks a lot Sameer.

Tried the procedure many times..
right now i have I570EXXJCE..
changed the language to english.

The phone seems a bit sluggish..

any suggestions to improve the speed?
I had used 1.5 for 1 day, but that was faster.

Awaiting your reply..

Krishnendu

GREAKY said...

@ Rogier - Yes you can post screenshots here.

@ Leroy - just google it.

@ Shaji - I have downloaded that NPS too but I am yet to try it.. I running XXJCB so it will be interesting to what it says for my fw.

@ Darshan - See Shajis post above yours. We are not yet sure how is NPS gonna react to the 2.1 leaked firmwares... If anybody has any experience please post here.

@Boka- I suggest using Advanced Task Manager(FREE) It has a widget which can be used to kill unnecessary apps running in background.

darshan said...

ok sameer then should we roll back to 1.5 where do i find Indian 1.5 firmware and also am getting samdroid logo on boot how to remove it....

GREAKY said...

Darshan - the XXJCB and the fw after that are more less the finished product.. try the NPS option first and then decide.

for 1.5 head to www.samsung-firmware.webs.com and download anyone which is older than DDJB2.

darshan said...

but is there not any particular for India and will it remove the samdroid logo

darshan said...

am in india and officially its not yet released then how is kies showing update

darshan said...

thanks ... do u suggest me flashing back to 1.5 and try kies or nps or flash directly from odin now am using I570EXXJCE

GREAKY said...

Darshan - enjoy the XXJCE and let the official update come to India before u decide what to do. No point going back to 1.5!

darshan said...

thank U sameer... am really enjoying this version it almost has no bugs am using lk mod along with it ..is helix launcher the best or there s much better one's

Unknown said...

Hi Sameer,

Hope you are doing fine.

I remember you said that you would be compiling a list of apps you had installed on your phone and put a post for all of us.

We all are waiting for that post.

Um, Sameer, I'm gonna be getting a Spica soon, so I'm trying to wrap my head around all these things.

I wanted to know if it is possible to use any of the European firmwares on samsung-firmwares.com for the Asian/Indian Spica. If so, do they work correctly with our carriers here in India? Can someone who's used the I750EXXJCE or JCF in India also please confirm this? Thanks a million...

nopolthepilot said...

I have the unfortunate problem of not being able to flash to JCE or JCF. What I use is the spica_jc3.ops file with the one package of either versions. After Odin completes the transfer, I will get the ! mark with the phone lying down on its side (presumably dead :S) When I restart the phone by taking out the battery and putting it back in, it will get stuck at the screen with the Samsung logo and the loading bar below. The bar goes to full but then nothing happens.

I've flashed to I5700DXJB3 with the old spica.ops file and it works. I'm just curious as to why this happens. I live in Singapore by the way.

GREAKY said...

Karl - The European firmwares work fine with our SPICA's. I am currently running XXJCB and it is very stable.

Nopol - I am not too sure why this is happening, maybe you should check the ops file contents. Just try to open the file with wordpad and post the contents here. Also check if the FW you are trying to flash has a filed called cache.frs. Another thing is that the new firmwares after XXJCB take a lot of time to boot so I am hoping you been patient lol.

debamishra said...

has anybody solved the sound issue?

nopolthepilot said...

This is what's in spica_jc3.ops

0,boot
1,Sbl
2,logo
3,zImage
4,datafs
5,factoryfs
6,cache
7,
8,modem
9,efs

----
Also, here are the full contents of the JCE package
cache.rfs
datafs.rfs
factoryfs.rfs
modem.bin
zImage

Oh yea, I did wait for 10 to 15 minutes as I read that some people had to wait 6+ minutes before their phone booted, but they didn't mention that they got the ! sign after their flash, so I'm not sure about that.

Karl Francisco Fernandes said...

Aah! Thanks for that! I actually went through all 400+ comments on this article. Many of my questions were answered. Sameer, this blog is really a blessing.

Is it due to some speed or stability issue that you are using XXJCB? Or you just haven't had the time to upgrade to JCE/F?

GREAKY said...

Nopol - Why don't you try the XXJCB firmware.. it is pretty much the finished product and works like a charm. Good Luck.

GREAKY said...

Karl - I am very happy with XXJCB so decided to stick with it. It is a huge improvement from DDJB2. Also now I am waiting for the official upgrade using the NPS. Although if it does not happen .. no biggie.
XXJCB has ironed out most of my issues.

Sameer, if I could trouble you one last time, just a couple of questions about the Spica, not Android:

1. Is the display AMOLED or LCD? Different blogs say different things, and the Spica is not on the Samsung India website...

2.Does stuff like DivX playback and DNSe function from the hardware or the firmware? How do you rate the audio quality? Does DNSe make a difference?

3. Most retarded question for last: does the Spica come with the TouchWiz UI? I always thought it came with stock Android, like the I7500 Galaxy...

Thanks, and I promise I won't trouble you again :D

@sameer-- how does update through nps work?? does the nps software check the present firmware and update to a latest firmware of the particular baseband or is it dependant on the nps version used??

ViKiD™ said...

Just installed I570EXXJCF ...

These people at Samsung are just getting better and better!!

Freaking awesome cache management! More free memory (Up from 132 to 147)

And even after installing whatever i had installed earlier i still have 44 MB free!! (this was earlier down to 20-25 MB)...

Just too good...

Facebook integration has been fixed too!

GREAKY said...

@ Karl - It has a LCD display.. I know some people have misreported it as a AMOLED.

2 - Not sure what you mean there.. I am not much of a audiophile but the quality is decent I would say.. I have not been able to use the DIVX player for some odd registration error it keeps throwing up. Maybe somebody else can answer that for you.

3 - No touchwiz on the I5700..

No worries about troubling me.. we all love to share info.. don't we?

Ravi Teja J said...

@vikid- is the phone smoother than on jcb??

GREAKY said...

@ Teja - Not sure about the whole NPS business.. I haven't bothered to check yet.. Lets see if somebody reports it.

awd said...

i can't seem to find any information about how to dump the samsung galaxy spica's original firmware for backup purposes, can we do that using the odin program?

or is it not possible because there's no way to set the phone in upload mode (the reverse of setting the phone in download mode, like shown in this guide)?

if so then that means there's no way of backing up the phone's default contents, like the wallpapers, ringtones, and default applications, like google maps, google mail, etc?

any confirmation of this issue is highly appreciated, and thanks for the great guide!

awd said...

another addition...

accessing the phone's memory contents from pc (windows) is also not possible by using samsung pc studio...

the only accessible contents are the sd card contents, and most of the phone's default contents (wallpapers, ringtones, applications, etc) are not in the sd card, so there's really no way to dump or extract them

Hi all, dont worry about bricking your phone in the process of flashing (only works if downloading from Odin was at 0).
I found a easy way to restore your phone after you start getting "phone - ! - computer" mark.
Just connect phone to comp and switch on, if doesnt work - press 'vol down + cam button + switch on'.
I dont know the logic behind this but it works. I was trying weird things and bricked my phone. now its well booting with 1.5 firmware.

darshan said...

Hi sameer have u observed the difference in volume from 1.5 to 2.1 the speaker volume is very less... i believe u ve observed it and also found some fix for it.. plz help me out

nopolthepilot said...

I've found a solution for anyone interested in flashing to JCB (or JCE or JCF) but are getting the ! and phone sign after the flash.

I discovered this from some other people on Samdroid, just thought I'd share it here:

(Remember to plug out SIM card and SD card before this)

1. Get to download mode as you would on the SPICA, start up Odin, make sure the phone gets recognised.
2. Set the OPS file as spica_jc3.ops which can be found above.
3. Get the Bootloader and Phone file off JB4 from here http://www.4shared.com/file/234729744/fc5090ac/Boot_and_Phone_from_JB4.html
4. Get the CSC file off DXJB3 on samsung-firmwares. (Look for the DXJB3 download in Green)
5. Select the Boot, Phone and CSC files that you have from steps 3 and 4. You don't need a PDA file for this.
6. Enable "Debug Only" and CHECK PDA Format
7. Start the flashing process.
8. Once it says PASS on top or "Close serial port" etc, it should be done. Wait for your phone to reach the screen with ONLY a Samsung logo and nothing else.
9. Turn off your phone by taking out the battery and putting it back in.
10. Now reset the files in Odin and CHECK One Package. Select the .tar file for JCB, JCE or JCF, depending on what you want, probably works for anything in between those as well.
11. Make sure DEBUG MODE is still checked but check off PDA Format (Don't really know the rational for this, but it works)
12. Put the phone to download mode, do the things you would to prepare the phone and the PC for flashing.
13. Click Start and the phone will be start downloading.
14. From this point on, everything should be automated and you should have the new firmware installed.

Hope this helps, here's where I got the info from by the way:
http://forum.samdroid.net/threads/342-Failure-to-Update-Spica-to-I570EXXJCB

Thanks Sameer for providing such a good guide to flashing :D

GREAKY said...

@ Andi - Why do you need the old firmware.. you can reflash a 1.5 fw if you don't like the 2.1.

As for the backup .. google mail is in sync and you can setup it again. I am assuming you have setup a sync.

As for the wallpapers/ringtones .. you will get a new set of them depending on the firmware you flash.

@darshan - I am not facing any such issue with XXJCB.

@V% - read the comment just above yours. Although I have not tried it myself.. try it at your own risk. XXJCB can be flashed using my guide.

@v% Try updating your drivers (I did) and make sure you are using XP, select tar as PDA and spica_ops file that is the newest, uncheck one package and start it in download mode, the mistake i did was selecting the old ops file that was in the package with "samsung-firmware.webs.com" and it got stuck with "!" mark. then I reflashed it with sameer's ops and it worked.

Hi! I also like to know if there is a way to upgrade i7500 to Android 2.1.
Thanks

Ravi Teja J said...

this is what i did when i got stuck at setup connection..
-unistall all samsung drivers..
-connect phone in download mode -install drivers,
-disconnect phone(important)
-make sure no samsung pc suite is running..
-now open odin first and then connect the phone..after it is detected by the odin use proper ops file and other files to flash..

and xp is not essential for latest odin as i use it on windows 7..just check the drivers are properly installed before flashing...

hi Sameer,

Good tutorial...heard that some people have their IMEI number reset to all zeros after flashing... is that really happening?

FrEaK said...

Hey Sam,
Thanks for your AWESOME GUIDE! I updated to I570EXXJCE. I used Win7, and it worked smoothly.
For guys who face problems with drivers. U are not alone...i faced them too...What i did was, i didnt use the drivers uploaded here. I installed Samsung PC Studio, and let it install the drivers for me automatically.
So, when i connected the phone in "Download mode", the drivers automatically installed. I didnt have to manually point them.
Everything will go well once ur drivers are in the right place :)
Eclair is awesome...Slick and Fast.
Jus facing one problem, Youtube doesnt work. Anyway to resolve this?
Cheers!

2. i own a spica and have already flashed 2.1 on to it with JCE version of samsung-firmwares.

3. to top it i am currently using useful mod 2.2 to reduce the load off my handset and to make it perform even better..(..as i have been told)

4. now sameer i need to know how efficient is useful mod for an android phone..it sure takes off a lots of goodies but then gives me freedom of root access..

5. and is there any better mod version available as yet..if yes then kindly give me the link..

And my IMEI is still intact :)

N00b question...but i cant figure out how to delete Homescreens after updating to 2.1. I was just messing around by adding more...now i cant get rid of them. Anyone got a clue?

GREAKY said...

@ Penchal - I am not sure how are you trying to upgrade.. It takes 3-4 minutes max to upgrade.

@ Rajesh - contacts are synced with ur gmail account so no need to backup that. (provided u had setup a sync in the first place)
As for the vids they are on ur sdcard so you just need to remove the SDCard before flashing.

@ Harpreet - Well it all depends on what the mod is removing from the OS and whether you can live without those things. Personally I am not using any mod. Its not even rooted :)

@ Freak - you can do that by pressing menu button while being on the home screen and then going into EDIT. I am assuming you are using the default home app - Pantheon. Then use the (-) button to remove the additional home screens.

FrEaK said...

@Sameer...Thats the problem Im facing man...There's no (-) sign on the homescreen's when I go into edit. There are jus (+) on both the sides. Its weirdly funny.

GREAKY said...

@ Freak - How many home screens do you have right now ?

FrEaK said...

Currently got 6. Three of them are completely empty. Its not much of an issue...jus wondering if others are facing the same problem...

to backup current firmware use command
for Android 1.5
fdump -t /dev/bml5 /sdcard/factoryfs.rfs
in adb interface or terminal emulator on phone..
if someone from india can backup the orginal firmware I5700DDIK2 it ll be great as this firmware is not found on any site..

Unknown said...

@ all who are facing gps/edge problem or market not working.
Hard reset your phone with the code given in the first post. After that the first thing you do is to configure the APN and connect to google. it will work as it wotked for me.
For those who cant get beyond step 1 or their phones not booting up after flashing use spica_jc3.ops. you can download it from the link given in the 1st post.
Hope this solve your problem

Prabu Yuvaraj said...

Hi Sameer,

thanks for the terrific suggestions. After all the posts by you, I flashed my spica to I5700DXJB3 after a lot of errors. The only setting that it worked was without with CSC file and Debug option checked and PDA format checked. But I'm not able to install any apps from the market. It says download unsuccessful. Any suggestions?

I tried installing the JCB firmware but it just wouldn't install.

GREAKY said...

@ Prabhu - I had the same problem.. I just flashed the JCB firmware and till now the issue hasn't come back. What error are you getting when installing the JCB fw ? are u selecting the One Package option ?

Prabu Yuvaraj said...

I selected the one package option and the new spica jc3 ops. With no debug option clicked. It installs and then when it reboots the traingle with ! comes.

Can you list out the steps you used to flashing. Will be a great help. And thanks for the quick reply!!!

GREAKY said...

@ Prabhu - the same steps described on my blog. Are u doing a hard reset before flashing ?

Prabu Yuvaraj said...

I haven't done a hard reset. But let me list out the things I did, so you have a better picture.

1.Use the Odin 4.03 and the new spica ops file.
2.Selected the one package option and no debug checked.
3.Other things are correct. Phone recognised in the Device Manager

GREAKY said...

@ prabhu- no harm trying a hard reset then. I can't think of anything else. Also make sure nothing else is accessing the USB.

Prabu Yuvaraj said...

Nothing else is accessing the USB.

And now I worked out the issue of installing apps from the market. I installed JB3 firmware with the CSC file of JB2 with no Debug option checked. It works without any issue and able to download the apps from market.

But, it throws up an error saying insert SD card even though it is. And in the settings the phone recognizes the SD and shows all the media too. But when I try to download any attached off my gmail it says no card found. Hard reset should solve it?

GREAKY said...

@ Prabhu - no harm trying.

Prabu Yuvaraj said...

will try and let you know. And really thanks. You have been fantastic.

GREAKY said...

@ Prabhu/Karun - Livewallpapers are not supported by default.. I have not yet been able to work it on my phone.. but then I haven't bothered much about it.

@ Hiader - I can't be sure, you will have to try your luck at the local service station.

@ Click - you should try reflashing.. looks like it has not been sucessful.

@ Raging - it takes not more than 3-5 minutes... if you are struck at setup connection.. remove the battery and then disconnect the phone.. that way you might save the phone from bricking.

Hey there, thanks for the guide. I have one question though: I have the latin american model and want to update to 2.1. Will installing a european or asian firmware make my phone inoperable down here?

Thanks!

GREAKY said...

@ WAI - the only difference would be the .ops file. You should use the old ops file to go back to the 1.5 fw. But then why would you want to do that ?? !

@ DIB - the instructions are all there on my post.. but remember you are always running a risk when you flash.. maybe you can wait till the official version comes out in your country. safer that way.

@ Spacemonkey - I think you should put this question in www.samsung-firmware.webs.com just to be sure. Coz I have read something about not using the firmware for American phones.. not sure if South america is included in that !

Excellent guide I would say, Sameer. Much better than other I have seen. All customized for the Indian version of Spica. Though I faced hiccups initially with the drivers, I was able to resolve it. I finally loaded 2.1 on my spica and its splendid!

The only issue, though a serious one I am facing is with wifi. Its not able to connect to my home network or any wifi at all. It identifies the network, accepts passcode and gets an IP but no data transfer occurs. Tried auto and manual configuration. Tried hard resetting to factory settings. Nothing works. Its strange, have not seen this issue with others.
Any idea?
Thanks.

@ Chetan - you need to reflash with the DEBUG option selected to resolve the 0 MB issue.

@ Sriram - Yes I would think that the driver shows Samsung only when you connect it in the download mode.

@ Anand - as far as I know the DEBUG option resolves the 0 MB issue. you might want to post a question in the forums if there are other solutions

@ Siddesh - you are supposed to use the new spica.ops file for firmwares after XXJBA. This the firmware you would be flashing and not the firmware which you have on the phone.

As for the drivers.. just start ODIN and check whether it shows the COM port as shown in the screenshot I have attached.

@ Venkat - I think you should take it to a service center.
